Jefferson Communications Media, publisher of My Green Guide Maryland, is committed to taking all possible steps to achieve a green business. The following are the eco-friendly policies we enacted to make financial and moral sense for ourselves and the community: 

• Have printed My Green Guide Maryland on paper with 38% recycled content, when the industry average is 31%; the cover is printed on paper with 25% recycled content
• Encourage employees to bring their own, reuseable water bottles
• Reuse paper in our office by printing on both sides
• Recycle paper, aluminum, glass and plastics
• Carpool to lunch (or eat in the office), eating local or sustainably-produced food as often as possible
• Offer telecommuting to some employees
• Use natural light whenever possible
• Turn down HVAC during non-working hours
• Recycle ink cartridges
• Reuse materials in our media presentation kits
• Turn lights off when not in use
• Group shipments of publications to fill the delivery truck
• Buy rain barrels in bulk so staff members can purchase one for their homes at a reduced price
• Reuse adding machine table
• Use energy-efficient desk lighting and fluorescent bulbs.
• Print e-mails and other materials only when necessary and rely on electronic means to share documents
• Encourage awareness of the importance of the environment by sponsoring events, particularly events targeted at children 

We know our actions, both individually and as a business, set an example and have an effect in our efforts to take care of the planet.
