Through a partnership with the Suitland Family and Life Development Corporation, students at Drew-Freeman Middle School, Suitland, can take part in science enrichment programs through the new Climate, Ocean, and Weather (COW) Institute at their school.

Approximately 80 students will be inducted into the Institute on Oct. 4, and will take part in one of three programs: the Science and Math Investigative Learning Experience Club, the Entrepreneur Club, and the Climate Science Academy. The goal of the COW Institute is to build students’ knowledge and skills in climate science, and create a pipeline of students who will continue to build on their STEM education in college.

Special guests include Congresswoman Donna Edwards, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker; Dr. William R. Hite, Jr., Superintendent of Schools; and Dr. Jane Lubchenco, under secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA administrator.
